This is a free information service for parents or carers and their children between the ages of about seven and 12 years who wet the bed at night. This project provides a single consultation of around one hour’s duration. During this a range of different methods leading to a dry bed will be explored
A few short video clips will be shown and handouts provided. These contain a number of tips and resources the parent may not be aware of. They also refer to other services. The aim is to give the parent a great choice of alternative solutions.
In addition an alternative method may be offered. That method is related to 'Behaviour Modification' of the noted psychologist B.F. Skinner and accords with my qualifications and experience with children. It will give the child a positive perspective on the issue and create an opportunity to be actively involved.
A brief handout explains the process. This plan will ONLY be carried out with the given consent and in the presence of the parent or other adult responsible for the child.
If a regular dry bed is achieved in this way, many improvements in the child’s life are expected. These include an enhanced social acceptance, a sense of achievement and better grades in school.
While this service is free of charge, terms and conditions apply. After working with children and parents for some 30 years I am aware of the variety in cultures, religions and attitudes in different families. Enuresis is a sensitive matter. If any suspicion or ill feeling should arise then the benefits of the process could be impaired. For this reason one of the conditions states that at any time, either the parent or myself is at liberty to terminate the session, if so desired even without explanation.
